If you find that the parking brake is not working, it's time to proceed to repair. The second most common breakdown is souring of the aforementioned cable. It is already more difficult to cure this, and it is best to simply replace the cable, since it is usually not expensive. But if you don't want to spend money, you can try to find exactly where the cable turned sour and try to fill it with a rust converter or a liquid wrench.
The remaining breakdowns are most often associated with problems in the brake mechanism itself and it is not recommended to fix them yourself, it is better to contact a service station. But if you decide to do everything yourself, it's best to purchase a special repair kit and install it entirely. This will keep you from making mistakes and protect you from further breakdowns.
